| But Tiger Spirit team wins big bucks with slow fishing for the qualifying blue and black marlin
CABO SAN LUCAS --
One hundreds boats vying for just over $2 million battled it out over
three days off Cabo Lucas last week in the Bisbee’s Black & Blue Marlin
Tournament in which team Bad Medicine won the title and Tiger Spirit took the big money.
The action took place Tuesday through Friday on the water and at
the weigh-in at the Puerto Paraiso mall scale as big crowds awaited qualifying fish to be brought in.
And when the awards were handed out at the dinner Saturday night under the stars at the mall it was Bad Medicine, with Capt. Bernabe
Ruiz at the helm, that accepted the 2011
title with a 409-pound blue marlin caught the first day. The team won the day
one jackpots of $200, $500, $1,000, $2,000 to win $394,090.
However, it was Tiger Spirit that won the big dollars as Capt. Capt. Sergio Cota and boat owner and team captain Ned
Wallace won $1,162,842.50 for
catching a 395-pound marlin that scooped all the money in all three’s daily jackpots
of $5,000 and $10,000.
In a Calcutta jackpot
format, teams compete in optional jackpots each day, but if a minimum size fish
of 300 pounds is not weighed in among those teams in the optional, that
optional money rolls forward or backward to the team the previous day or the
next day.
The following are the results of the event.
