It might just be one of the best winter halibut seasons in years, as the flatties have been biting up and down the coast for those focusing on them.
There's been a surprising amount of 40-plus-pound fish caught off San Diego--WON freelancer Greg Trompas has a pair of 40s and a handful of 30s this winter--and the shot at getting a 40 has been a real one on the sportboats.
Here's the most recent one: a 43.1 pound trophy for Dana Wharf regular Peggy Stein. Showing off the fish that put her in the 40-pound club is Clemente skipper Cory Lieser.
