Federal Celebrates 90th Birthday

Norma ammo arrives
It was a little over a year ago that old friend Ron Petty called me out of the blue and wanted to talk about Norma ammo. I hadn’t chatted with Ron for quite a while at the time – not since he retired from another ammo company.

We got together and Ron explained that he was helping Norma ammunition expand into the American market. Through the years, Norma has an on-again, off-again presence in this market, even though Norma makes some of the best ammo and ammo components on the face of the earth.

Ron arranged for a meeting with Jorgen Sandstrom, Norma’s Swedish-based marketing manager, at last year’s NRA convention in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Then Jorgen and I had an opportunity to hunt wild boar, etc. in Poland last fall. So, it was kind of like old home week at this year’s NRA convention in St. Louis when I bumped into Jorgen. But this year, Norma had an impressive booth, very near the front door of the NRA show.

Norma is being true to the vision of offering premium grade ammo that is designed specifically for North American hunting conditions via the introduction of the Norma USA American PH. Also, the well-established Norma African PH line is now available in the United States.

Norma’s American PH line is designed and engineered specifically for the demands of the American sportsman. The new line-up of precision-grade ammunition features high-performance, bullet and powder combinations in 50-calibers from .243 Winchester to .340 Weatherby and all the best hunting calibers in between.

Norma cases are precision manufactured to deliver superior accuracy and carefully inspected to ensure proper bullet seating and primer pocket alignment. Only the best in powder charges are used to achieve the maximum ballistic performance of any combination.

Included in the new American PH ammunition line are the popular Oryx and Kalahari bullets. The Oryx bullet ensures perfect mushrooming at all impact velocities and excellent penetration. The Oryx expands rapidly upon impact without fragmentation creating a large wound without damage to the surrounding meat.

The Kalahari bullet can meet any challenge whether hunting on open ranges or in the mountains where long shots are common. The Kalahari’s design ensures the highest possible velocity within safe pressures to give the flattest trajectory possible. It also gives the best possible ballistic coefficient and lowest wind-drift achievable. The bullet expansion upon impact is controlled and restricted providing maximum wounding and deep penetration.

The Norma African PH ammunition, designed for stopping a determined charge from one of Africa’s Big Five, is now available through Norma USA and shipping from the US warehouse to all major US retailers. This line-up was developed with the aim to optimize traditional ballistic criteria, which in turn, are responsible for the most important criterion of all – stopping power. The Norma African PH line up is comprised of 23 combinations from .375 Flanged Mag Nitro Express to .505 Mag Gibbs.
