No matter where you find yourself in the world, no level of technology will ever replace radio fish — or the always popular cell phone fish — as in being on the water and getting the call that they are biting.
The night before this trip with the folks from PENN and the nation’s top editors to Costa Rica's Crocodile Bay Lodge, the phone rang. It was one of those calls. The “hope you are out tonight, ‘cause they are biting and I have some bait for you calls.” Seabass with a side of squid, obviously.
Yellowfin tuna what feels like a world away is what the calling in of the Crocodile Bay fleet has revolved around the past few days.
Solid 30 to 50 pounders on blue runners tossed back on the spin gear — the new Spinfisher V reels and PENN Carnage rods — has been the style of fishing being done. Pretty much the opposite of home, yeah.
It’s been fun. Look for a photo blog once stateside. In the meantime, let’s hope there are a lot of shots like this one from home this summer.
