Remembering Jan Ishi

Bluefin words
“Good school here, guys. Let’s see if we can get on this one.” “Start it off.” “Throw it steady; throw it real steady!” “Let ‘em have it, LET ‘EM HAVE IT!”

“Boil.” “Boil.” “Oh, look at the fish! Here they come guys.”

“Biter.” “Oh, another biter. Another one.” “Heavy tackle! Heavy tackle!"

The words go can down into all different forms of sentences—most incomplete. But in the end, there’s nothing like that excitement coming from the P.A. that gets the electricity going across the back deck.

Sonar fishing for bluefin tuna is an art. That’s why when the stuff gets close to home, the same skippers are always on top of the pack when it comes to the top scores.

From a rod and reel, sportboat passenger standpoint, bluefin fishing is as technical as it gets. Make it anchor fishing, like those rare seasons where the bluefin get on the 60, Cortez or Tanner banks, and it’s as talent as it gets…

Look for the rest in this week's Tackle Room Column. It's going to be all about the bluefin this month, no doubt....
