The weekend weather still looks great with light winds Saturday and a bit of a breeze Sunday, mainly in the afternoon...but there will be LOTS of boat traffic out there! Many of the overnight and 1.5 day trips departing Friday night are sold out from the big 3 and Seaforth... The danger of putting out a forecast 5, 6, 7 days away is the variability in weather AND the model output...and a lot can change in that amount of time! Having said that, some of the latest model runs (NAM, GFS & WWIII) have slightly increased the coastal wind forecast a bit more than the previous few runs had for that area off northern Baja California early next week. Could be due to the placement of the remnants of Gilma? Could be due to poor (or better) initialization of the model? In any event, because there is a little more run-to-run and model-to-model consistency, I'd be more inclined to say there will be a general 10-15 knots of wind in the Mon-Wed timeframe in that 60-120 mile zone south of San Diego. Nothing horrible, especially if you're on a bigger boat, but not the "calm as a mill pond" conditions many have experienced this past week...and not the calm/less than 10 knots I indicated in the forecast recorded Wednesday night. Just trying to pass along the most up-to-date info and my best guess along to the rest of you....and remember: I'm going to be out there too! :) Good luck. -Chris Dunn www.thefishingweatherman.com
