World record Cabo yellowfin?
UPDATE: Details are coming in, and like most "big stories" it's tough to pull the real info out of the online muck.

But this is what we do know: The angler was said to be Guy Yocom of Dana Point; the vessel, El Suertudo, a 61-foot Viking. There's been rumors galore, so far what we do know from calls to WON is that it's been said that the goal of Yocom has been to win the $1,000,000 in Mustad's Hook a Million Contest.

Word (unconfirmed) is that the boat has permits to fish the Revillagigedos, and that's where the fish was caught. It's hurricane season, and fishing the islands is a dicey move... it will be interesting to see what the whole story is. Stay tuned. No confirmed word if it was 421.5 or 427...

Just got an e mail that what could be a new IGFA all-tackle yellowfin tuna just got weighed in down in Cabo.

There are no details at this time, except for that the fish weighed 421.5 or 427 pounds.

Look for an update later. If anyone has any details, please share! In the meantime, here's the fish:

I don't know why neone is making a big deal out of this. I once hooked what was a 700lb giant mexican yellowfin tuna while deep dropping dyed Austrailian squid in 50,000 feet of water with my Accurate 180 wide and 800lb test. The weather was nasty and the fish ended up breaking off before I got to see it but I knew I had the world record. The giant pacific yellowfin tuna feed primarly on hake and market squid. They are not located in Cabo San Lucas but in the Southern California Bite. Please get your fax rite before writing an article about who holds the world record for giant southern baja yellowfin tuna. Pic is from today, Sep 19th... That I can confirm. I have heard both weights, 421.5 and 427 as well. Line test, testimonials, etc will take weeks from IGFA but it looks like a new all-tackle world record.
