So this is what it feels like...
Ok. Almost forgot what this one feels like, since it's been such a good year since May; we just chalk it up to a little pouch of luck that has been stashed behind the skiff's third bottle of 2012 celebratory spirit taken a shot at a time.

So I skiff fished Friday and Saturday inshore and caught nothing. Like nothing, nothing. Where? Where, where, where? From the 50 Minute Spot (to try and save a trip with some bass) below the Laguna closure all the way down to Crystal Pier's squid bite where the New Seaforth posted some scores earlier in the week. Like all the way. Fished kelp lines, found a little spot of squid (really thought it would be it!) and pretty much tried everything, day and night.

Missing two trips is kind of gnarly. But then again so is the realization that it was the first week that I have not had a seabass or yellowtail since late May. Bound to happen, I guess. And it makes me realize how all the skiff guys (and there were a lot) who missed hard when all the dorado was around felt. Even when it's "easy," it's never easy.

Insert cheesy quote: that's why they call it fishing.

Will pics like this just be a memory of bag bending biscuits off a little kelpline with nobody else around, or will it bounce back coming off this full moon? Honestly, I dunno. Either way, it's been fun while it lasted....

... some yellowfin close to home is sounding pretty Ok.
