He hit three consecutive home runs in the 1977 World Series; his clutch hitting in the postseason — October — earned him the nickname Mr. October. He thrived under pressure. He struck out a bunch during the season, he wasn't afraid of striking out, but when it mattered, really mattered, he hit home runs and got the people out of their seats and shaking their heads in disbelief.
Oh, to be an on-the-water Reggie Jackson this month before hanging up the keys and heading to Cabo.
I know there’s no resemblance — well, maybe a little?
My goal for the rest of the fall (fishing post season), just because I need something to help get out of this little rut and finish off what was an epic, EPIC season along the coast in the Arima?
A coastal tanker, a hit on these San Diego yellowtail or a nice whack on the seabass with a friend or two and a big halibut seems like the way to pull a Mr. October along the coast this fall since we aren’t getting the tuna, marlin or swordfish in tight to the beach.
It was a can't miss skiff season; well, at least until the third week of September when things went pear and almost leading the coast in strikeouts, right behind my best fishing buddy, took over. Lightboats making the coast look like baseball fields made it tough to fish some of the spots where the season was made. Some say that it's too late, or that the game is almost over.
But there's time to rally, time to switch over to the postseason game ....
