Esaul Valdez of Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort on the East Cape just send in this report, and he shown here with one of two tuna caught yesterday (10-30) at Gordo Banks, fishing out of San Jose on the Dottie II with Vicente.

From the's the latest post before Valdez sent in his report... it's just crazy good right now,a nd we're over the 104-team mark and rising in numbers, and jackpot additions are flooding in by wire.

 Yesterday we went over the 100-team mark on entries and we have 104 with more coming. We are confident we will over last year's 106-team mark, and will again be the biggest Cabo tournament in terms of teams. Bisbee's Marlin event, to be fair, has 108 teams, but a whopping  700-plus  anglers because there is no limit to the number of team members. The Frantic Pace team that won $2.4 million  last week  had, for example, 12 team members.

Whatever the case, we are thrilled that so many people are fired up to tournament fish, no matter kid of fish they are after or what great event they enter.  Mexico, we feel,  is turning the corner on its tourism business. It doesn't hurt that airfares are lower, and that fishing is outstanding. The Outer Gordo is getting a lot of attention because it's close and there are huge fish being caught on it, 200 and 300 pounders and plenty of 100 to 130 pounders. But the other banks -- and porpoise schools -- will spread out the pressure when fishing gets underway next Thursday and finishes up Friday, Nov. 8-9.

Brian Solomon, a sponsor of the tournament since it began 14 years ago, is owner of Solomon's Landing Restaurant in Cabo, and has been fishing hard this past week. He'll be competing again. He caught a 265 pounder  Saturday on the Outer Gordo. He weighed the yellowfin in on a certified scale in front of his restaurant before a big crowd, and today (Wednesday) he fished on his twin Yamaha Pro-Cat 24 footer and  landed a 100 pounder on the Gordo and said he lost a bigger fish than the Saturday 265. There have been a lot of those stories because it takes 50 and 60-pound fluoro to ignite a bite on live bait, chunk or jump squid. Good tip? Use Mustad ringed circle hooks for the long fight on that light of a leader. You'll get some from Mustad's Steve Tagami at check-in. Brian used the ringed Mustad circle hooks he got from us last year to get that 265 last Saturday.

For the teams coming down, I can only say you picked a great year to spend a week in Cabo with us. We have a fun event planned over four days. A few changes this year will be the check-in area, in front of the Wyndham. More room on the malecon there. The captains meeting will be at the outdoor amphitheatre again with a few new twists, sponsored by Yo-Zuri, makers of top-grade line and lures.

Another change is the start boat. It is the Cabo Escape Tour boat, and will be used both days for the start boat crew, staff and dignitaries and guests. On the second day's start, the  Great Escape  tour boat will play host to the Wyndham Ladies Charter and start boat with the staff aboard, giving anyone, really, to join the staff on the water to see the check-in and the send off via flare. Enjoy music, catered buffet breakfast and champagne, coffee and mimosas. The boat will leave the dock in front of the Wyndham at 6 a.m. and be back at 8 a.m. Cost is $10, and money goes to two children's charities. Tix will be on sale at check-in. Limited to 50 people. It's a great experience. Cheer on your team and there will be a drawing among those aboard to see who shoots off the flare to start the teams off!

It has to be said the Wyndham Cabo San Lucas Resort  is again the official host hotel and it's been a great tourney partner. It's rooms, bedding, beds, entrance and second floor patio pool (beautiful) are all finished and the hotel includes buffet breakfast and free room wi-fi in the deal. It's about $100 a night for two people, marina view, in the alpha spot on the marina. Can't beat that! Go to the website for details by clicking on the logo and link on the right.

Wednesday, Nov. 7: Check-in 2 -6 p.m. at Wyndham  Cabo Marina weigh- in area. Casting contest 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Yo-Zuri Captain's Meeting at 900-seat outside cultural center amphitheatre. 6:30-7:45 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 8: Shotgun start 7 a.m. at the Cabo Arch; Start boat is the  Cabo Escape, leaving dock in front of Wyndham at 6 a.m. sharp.; Gray's Taxidermy Weigh-in 2 p.m.-6 p.m. on malecon in front of Wyndham Cabo San Lucas Resort, lines out at 4 p.m., weigh-in ends at 6 p.m. or until all eligible fish are weighed.

Friday, Nov. 9: Shotgun start at 7 a.m. the Cabo Arch; Weigh-in 2-6 p.m.; Special Wyndham charity charter on start boat    Cabo Escape, leaving dock in front of Wyndham at 6 a.m. sharp  with champagne, breakfast burritos, coffee and prizes! (new!), lines out at 4 p.m. Grays Taxidermy scales close at 6: p.m. or until all eligible fish are weighed; Costa/Seaguar Fiesta, Food served and music starts at 7:30 and runs to 8:30 at Wyndham Hotel/malecon weigh-in area.

Saturday, Nov. 10: Yamaha Awards Dinner, Puerto Paraiso/Cabo Marina area; Catered by Ruth's Chris steakhouse. Bar opens at 5:30 p.m.; Mariachi music starts at 6 p.m., dinner is ready at 6:30; award ceremony begins at 7 p.m.
