Bluefin takes the Dana Jackpot title

Tuna, White Seabass and yellows a perfect mix

$2,000 guaranteed payout

$50 entry fee

If you are going fishing this weekend the WON/Yamaha Dana Landing Jackpot in Mission Beach with check-ins Friday afternoon and evening (4-10 p.m. ) and again Saturday morning (4-6 a.m.) at Dana Landing Market and Fuel Dock is a no-brainer to enter. There’s two GRAND for first place.

Guaranteed! Remember, it’s THIS weekend. Go far for bluefin? Coronados or La Jolla for yellows, or stay on the coast here and northern Mex for white seabass. Your call. You just need ONE big fish.

Why is it a no-brainer? It’s $50 a person to enter, no limit of anglers per team with a minimum of two anglers, there’s first second and third money and three $100 optionals for the eligible big-fish species of tuna, yellowtail and white seabass. Which species will win the $2,000 Yamaha cash payout.

Even if you don’t win an optional or finish one to third place, here’s a TON of drawings for prizes and when you get to the awards BBQ at Mission Beach at Dana Landing after the weigh-in, you get a lot of freebies like Yo-Zuri line, the BBQ, a Dana Landing shirt, Yamaha hat, Laser Sharp hooks, coils of Yo-Zuri fluro, and tickets for the drawing right after we weigh in, eat, and give away the bucks.

Don't worry, it will be a slam-bang one-hour ceremony and you’ll be on the road home by 6:30. You can check in at Dana Landing and sign up, too. Cash only onsite, though. It’s easy, cheap, casual, part of your fishing weekend and you will get enough freebies that are far beyond your entry fee.

Did I mention you get a free $40 annual sub for WON for entering if you are a new subscriber, and a cert for $20 off if you currently take it?  Darn. Can’t pass that freebie up.

Damn, I didn’t mention I have to hand out a serious amount of Cousins rods, Avet reels, Costa Sunglasses, Plano tackle boxes and Yo-Zuri fluoro, a Terrafin gift cert….serious prizes.

Sign up at check-in with cash.. I will be at the Dana Landing Market signing teams in.

more details....

The entry is $50 a person, the payouts are $2,000, $300 and $200 for first to third place, single biggest fish of either a yellowtail, white seabass or tuna. There are also three optional 90 percent payback optionals at $100 for all three species. Will a bluefin or even a bigeye take the money? Or a tanker white seabass.

danalandingonmissionbay

DANA LANDING ON MISSION BAY IS the one-stop tournament site with free launching, parking, the Dana Inn with special rates for the event for a weekend stay, plus all the supplies you will need for the event at the market and fuel dock and tackle store. If you plan to stay at the Dana hotel, call the hotel for the 15 percent discount. A letter from WON is required, and we will e-mail it to teams entering if requested.

The key is that you have a choice, and the check-in makes it possible to fish the white seabass and offshore tuna. Why? Teams of two or more anglers need only check in (or sign up (cash only, though) at Dana Landing by boat or launch ramp on Friday afternoon at Dana Landing Market from 4 to 10 p.m., or they can wait until the Saturday check-in from 4 to 6 a.m. They can pull up to the fuel dock in their boat, or launch.

Weigh-in is 3 to 5 p.m., awards, BBQ and drawings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. No long drawn out awards. Just the winners, food, drawings and thank you bags loaded a spool of Yo-Zuri 20 to 40-pound Hybrid line, a Yamaha hat, a Dana Landing t-shirt, a pack of Laser sharp hooks for each angler, a BBQ ticket and a ticket for the free drawings. And, every entrant will get either a free WON subscription, a $40 value for non-subscribers, or $20 off the annual rate for current or past subscribers.

“People wanted a tanker tourney, and a simple format, and a great spot to come and go without expense and border hassle, and this is it,” said event Director Pat McDonell. “The free stuff and prizes means odds are pretty good you’ll win something in a drawing.”

What can you win? How about one of fourCousins rods valued at $400 each? Or one of the 10 pairs of Costa sunglasses. There’s several Terrafin certificates, a stack of Plano tackle boxes, two rod/travel tubes and dozens of free plastic utility boxes, assorted Yo-Zuri lure packs, and WON subscriptions. The top team will not only win the $2,000 Yamaha bucks, but earn a $250 gift pack of Yo-Zuri lures.

Check in and boat inspections will be quick on Friday evening or Saturday morning (your choice) , you will get your welcome bag and have your boat inspected for any of the three eligible species, WSB, yellowtail and tuna. Weigh-in is from 3 to 5, and the awards are from 5:30 to 6:30. It’s easy, quick and you can fish locally for yellows and white seabass or fish the banks for tuna. As an example, a team of three, across the board on the three optionals, will pay $450. No optionals? $150. A team iof two, no optionals, $50 each. Fun, cheap, easy.

“Most teams will have two or three people,” said director Pat McDonell, “although there’s no limit to how many anglers, and at $50 a person, it’s cheap to enter, and you can hedge your bets by adding $100 optionals. The options are interesting. You could fish for white seabass at night, head for the tuna and yellowtail areas early in the morning. Or just stay on the coast and try to win with a big tanker white seabass. Everyone has a realistic shot at that $2,000.”
