CLEAR LAKE: Local knowledge counts

2016 California Open | Day One
BY JODY ONLY

For many of the 2016 California Open competitors at Clear Lake it turned out the bite yesterday wasn’t as tough on Day 1 as it had been practice. At end of day, we saw two teams (Newby/Pena and Bailey/Howard) break 30 pounds and over 20 percent of the field bring in over 20 pounds. On the pro side, both Jim Elliot and Jason Newby brought 10-pound kickers, while the biggest (10.76) of Day 1 was weighed by AAA Shane Gore.

Fishing resumes at 7 a.m. today with little change in conditions from the first – mostly sunny and a daytime high of 70 should see the bite continue to improve from practice days. The went is a three-day tourney. For more details on the tourney and WON BASS, go to www.wonbass.com
