LORI SACHOU IS pleased to add a nice fork-tail to the Searcher fish hold.

This year's 2nd-annual Lady Angler Searcher Sportfishing trip took 26 women out on an offshore 3-dayer aboard the boat Searcher out of Fisherman's Landing. The annual adventure's primary sponsors are Turner’s Outdoorsman and Izorline, with charter masters Lori Sachau and Wendy Tochihara.

The first order on the agenda was product giveaways galore. Izorline provided line for all. Turner's donated thousands of dollars worth of rods, reels and terminal tackle. Okuma donated a Makaira 16II SEa 2-speed to the jackpot, along with hats, additional reels, and provided ample loaner tackle for the ladies to test out.

Costa sunglasses threw in 30 discount coupons, while Mustad generously provided hooks for everyone. Accurate Reels sent over rods and reels for use on the trip. Phenix rods and Pelagic also kicked in product, and XTRATUF provided a free pair of ladies fishing boots to each of the ladies new to the trip, while second-timers had their boots from the 2016 event.

Janette of Anglerettes donated hats. Seeker Rods pro-staffer Sophie Huynh had Seeker shirts for all the gals as well as pink Athena rods for lucky raffle winners. It's always nice to go home from a trip with more tackle than you came with.

The Searcher first headed south about 100 miles into Mexican waters. We anchored at areas holding quality-sized yellowtail with yellowfin tuna mixed in. The fish ranged from 20 to 30 pounds, and everyone had multiple hookups for the two-and-a-half days of catching.

Owner-operator Art Taylor and his crew were exceptional at finding fish and helping us land them and Charlie and Dan in the galley served tasty meals. Their chef skills are hard to beat.

Why all ladies on the trip? We have found many women don't get a chance to hone their skills on the water being outnumbered by men on most trips. With Wendy, Lori, and Sophie aboard as pro staffers, this trip provides an unmatched educational opportunity for the ladies. We teach knot tying, how to pick a bait, casting jigs and confidence at the rail.

One of the things I noticed on this trip over others, is every hook-up gets the whole boat cheerleading for the lucky lady angler as she fights her fish. There is bonding in friendships, mothers and daughters, sisters – we're all for each other and we're out doing what we love.

This trip is great for the first time saltwater angler. Many of these gals caught their first tuna, or yellowtail ever.

Jackpot honorees were: first place, "Jackpot Judy" Kanouse, with a 24-pound yellowtail, second place, Lisa Kitagawa, with a 22.8-pound yellowtail and third, Lisa T. Kitagawa for her 21.4 pounder.

Thank you Lori and Wendy for the awesome report. The ladies can look forward to the 3rd annual, next San Diego offshore season, lots of swag, aboard the Searcher. Guys, it's ladies only, and ladies can join the charter next season simply by signing up at searchersportfishing.com
