SAN DIEGO — You’d better act quickly if you want to climb aboard some of the most-wanted overnight sportboats slated to fish the Western Outdoor News San Diego Offshore Jackpot on June 27-28. Spots will go fast.

None is likely to fill up faster than the New Lo-An, the back-to-back defending challenger helmed by Capt. Markus Medak. Last year this fishy boat produced John Gugliotta’s 88.2-pound first place bluefin tuna as well as the second place fish, an 84.8-pound bluefin caught by James Ughoc on 30-pound test. In 2018 the New Lo-An filled up far prior to the tournament. It’s sure to happen again. Joining its Point Loma Sportfishing stablemate will be the Chief.

The Ranger 85 out of tournament host H&M Landing is also online for the Offshore Jackpot. Last year, talented young skipper Capt. Robert Gray claimed third place with an 84.2-pound bluefin caught by Greg Commentz.

The Condor out of Fisherman’s Landing is also scheduled to compete. They were in the hunt last year too, with a quartet of fish in the high 70s, with a fifth fish just out of the running at 81.6 pounds.

The Offshore Jackpot is the largest contest of its kind anywhere, pitting a fleet of sportboats and their anglers from all three Scott Street landings in an overnight battle for the largest fish.

To book any of these boats for the Offshore Jackpot, anglers have to call the respective landings. If you miss your chance, more boats will be announced at a later date. Ranger 85, H&M Landing: (619) 222-1144; Condor, Fisherman’s Landing: (619) 221-8500; and New Lo-An and Chief, Point Loma Sportfishing: (619) 223-1627.
