Extremely Accurate, continued…

In this week’s Long Range Preview Supplement there’s an article I wrote on Accurate fishing products and the strides they’ve made with their new Boss Extreme Series. (The article can also be found on this site under Feature Articles.)

What the article didn’t touch on are Accurate’s Xnergy rods and AccuBraid superline that are part of Accurate’s package. Seeing how everything Accurate designs is based around fishing with braid, it only made sense that the company would get its own line of braid.

The braid isn’t made in the Corona factory like the reels are, but Accurate’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Ben Secrest, says that the braid is made by one of the best in the business when it comes to braid: “the braid is made in United States by one of the ‘main guys.’ The stuff is awesome: it’s got a smaller diameter, good abrasion resistance. It’s got more carriers. The carriers are the single weaves of braid.”

As far as the rods go, in a nutshell, the Xnergy rods have a floating fulcrum, and are designed around the concept of having the fish fight the rod.

“We’re just trying to create a package,” says Secrest of the reels, rods, braid and even lures, now that Accurate is the distributor of Halco lures.

“The rods come strictly off the design of our reels, and are designed to be used with braid,” says Secrest. “We’re just trying to makes fishing more enjoyable for the guys using our products... the rods have more give than the ‘traditional’ Southern California rod design… but they still have the power to land big fish… there’s nothing else like them.”

The rods and braid came out of anglers coming up to Secrest and Accurate owners David and Doug Nilsen and asking some basic questions.

“Everyone was always asking, ‘What rod do we use?’ ‘What line do we use?’” says David. “And we really couldn’t recommend what he (as in Ben) thought was right for fishing Spectra. “So we were like, screw it, lets just design some rods around what we thought they should be like for fishing Spectra with our reels.”

“On the internet it spells it all out,” finished David.
