Power-up

There is good news for the growing number of shooters and hunters who reload their ammunition. Alliant Powder is introducing a new series of five spherical powders called Power Pro.

Political fallout over the past year has triggered the most frenzied stockpiling of ammunition and components in the history of Gundom. Ammo began flying off shelves roughly a year ago this month, resulting in unprecedented shortages nationwide.

But even before that, the ammunition world was changing, because of the spike in the costs of raw materials like lead and copper in the months before the buying frenzy. It ended up being a rather bizarre situation in which prices spiked at the same time as sales soared.

To this day, despite running production lines 24-hours a day, seven days a week, ammo makers have not restored stability to the ammo supply line where ammo is snapped-up as fast as it can be delivered.

A logical result of all of that was a renewed interest in reloading ammo. Before these recent changes, ammo prices were relatively low enough in a glutted market to make reloading less appealing from a financial perspective. But everything changed.

In California, this ammo upset wasn’t helped recently when the governor signed into law the measure that requires registration of ammo purchases and purchasers.

With all of that in mind, it truly is exciting news when a company comes out with a whole new line of powders for both handguns and rifles.

“Made in the U.S.A., the Power Pro series is designed for magnum pistol, light varmint and light/medium/magnum rifles. Comprised of five new offerings, these new spherical powders are intended for specific cartridges and applications and are now available to the reloading public,” Alliant reported.

The new Power Pro series is comprised of Magnum Pistol, Varmint, Magnum Rifle, Large Rifle and Heavy .308 (300-MP, Varmint, 2000 MR, 3000 LR and 4000 MR).

Alliant Powder is part of ATK Armament Systems, and within the shooting sports industry is a stable mate of other brands like Federal Cartridge, CCI (primers, rimfire ammo, etc.), Champion (targets), Fusion (sub-brand of Federal), Gunslick (gun cleaning products), Nitrex (riflescopes and binos), Outers (gun care products), RCBS (reloading equipment), Shooters Ridge (shooting rests/range gear), Speer (bullets), Weaver (optics/mounting systems), and Eagle (tactical gear).

Designed for easier reloading, the Power Pro™ series delivers improved velocity and density for more efficient metering and loading. They help reloaders duplicate certain factory-loaded ammunition. These new spherical powders are available in both one-pound bottles and eight-pound canisters.
