— The Santa Ana River Lakes and Corona Lake will be kicking off trout season this week(end) — Nov. 5, 6, 7 and 8 — and this year’s “Trout Grand Opening” should be bigger than ever since it’s the “Nebraska Tailwalker Opener.”
Thousands and thousands of pounds of beautiful, brightly-colored, full tailed, rock-hard bodied rainbow trout will be stocked. But that's not all… The load will include tailwalkers at 5 to 8 pounds, maybe even larger. If you have caught a 1-pound tailwalker and felt the fight in these beauties, wait until you tie into a 5- to 8-pound fish and see that trout dance across the water, jumping and thrashing, tearing at your line. Hold on boss… because you're in for a fight.?
The lakes will also be having a 24-hour Family Fishing Special on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6 and 7. If dad pays $60, he gets a 15-fish limit, and mom and up to three kids 12 and under get in for free. Plus, they can fish, too, and help fill out the stringer. Even camping is free. Twenty-four-hour fishing begins at 5 p.m. both days.
And don’t forget to have your fish recorded on the lakes’ web cam and enter the free weekly drawing for over $300 worth of prizes, including a free pontoon boat rental, gate passes, boat rentals and fishing tackle. It’s free. All you have to do is have your picture taken with your catch. Compete details are available at the gate entrance.
