For 28 years, Western Outdoor News has been hosting the most popular striper fishing event in the world, and it's back again this year.
Well, this marks our 29th Derby, and once again, WON will be hitting the Havasu heat in May to dole out a plethora of prizes and fun in the sun, to the hundreds of participants certain to make the annual trip.
If last year’s Striper Derby provided any indication of the popularity of the annual tournament in terms of both angling appeal and prize packages, this year’s event — slated for Saturday and Sunday, May 19th and 20th — stands to be bigger than ever.
We at Western Outdoors News are excited to announce a “NEW” format for this year’s event. We have decided to decrease the entry from $160 per entry to $150 per entry for each division. Why the decrease you might ask? With the increasing gas prices and travel expense, we thought it would be a breath of relief to those that are joining us at the lake for 2012. At $150 per team, your entry includes… Entry into the tournament, an event hat and t-shirt, a goodie bag from our sponsors, and a shot at the Grand Raffle prize and thousands in cash and prizes!
We have also decided to add an all New "BIG FISH" payout option pool. The options will be $20 and will be paid back to the TOP 3 overall biggest fish of the two day event. This option is not per category, but an overall pool against all teams entered.
We will once again have the fan favorite “BLIND BOGEY” contest running on both Saturday and Sunday. Blind bogey entry fee is $40 per day and gives the team a chance at winning a share of $10,000 in cash depending upon the number of entries we receive in the blind bogey fund.
As always, we will have prizes for the top 15 teams with special category prizes for Father/Child and Husband/Wife teams.
