TUNA JACKPOT 2008!
Play with the big dogs and party like a rock star
CABO SANLUCAS--The 10th annual Western Outdoor News Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament is ready to roll, and the question is, are you? This is the 10th annual running of the five-day event and it’s as much a party as it is a competition, with three nightly events and drawings, two weigh-ins, more than $500,000 in payouts and it’s held in Cabo, the party capital of Mexico.
Mexicana returns as the official airline sponsor (book early to lock in best rates, they suggest), and the refurbished Tesoro is the official hotel of the event where the staff will be housed and special tourney rates will soon be offered. Solman’s Landing restaurant will again cater the party at Cabo Wabo, and the Eat Me Lure ladies and Corona Girls will be in attendance.
The daily schedule will remain the same as last year’s, as will all five optional tuna jackpots, including the immensely popular Dorado/Wahoo Optional that in its first year paid out more than $75,000 to one team last year. Book your plans around Nov. 5-8. Stay the full week in Cabo and get a liver scan when you get home!
Fishing days again will be Thursday and Friday, the 6th and 7th. The basic entry fee? Still $700 a team, which includes hat, shirt, sponsors gifts, entry to three parties and those huge drawings, the Cabo Wabo nightclub party (free drink, food and dancing and drawings) and a shot at $50,000 for finishing first, second or third in the overall over two days. If you want to gamble on our ability for more serious money, there’s the daily optionals.
"Why mess with a good thing?” asked Director Pat McDonell. “People had a great time last year, especially at the Friday Cabo Wabo Rock and Roll party. We had seven teams win serious money, and the people loved the new $1,000 Dorado/Wahoo optional. And after two years of people just looking at the $5,000 daily, a lot of teams are seeing that optional and $3,000 optional as the ones with the best odds of winning serious money because few teams enter it, and you only compete against those teams.”
McDonell added that this is the premier event of Western Outdoors Publications and the largest jackpot tuna tourney in world, with more money, more teams and more prizes given out each night. Be a part of the fun, the competition, win money and be a star on the two-hour Let’s Talk Hookup radio show 1090-AM Saturday morning hosted by Rick Maxa.
Stay tuned for any announcements on the event on this official website (www.loscabostunajackpot.com) or on the pages of Western Outdoor News or Western Outdoors Magazine. You can download the entry form from this website, or you can request one by e-mailing Pat McDonell at: pat@wonews.com
