2008 LOS CABOS TUNA JACKPOT

TOURNAMENT

LUIS DUHART VIDEOTAPES

Duhart Productions filmed all four days, and took hundreds of still photos of teams. Cabo-based videographer Luis Duhart has two videos for sale. One is the 10th anniversary video, which was shown at the check-in party this year, and the other is a recap of the 2008 event that is now completed.

“This is the best video done yet of the 10 year tourney,” said tourney director Pat McDonell. “If you want the real feel of the event’s fun and excitement, order the video. If you competed this year, it would be nearly impossible to NOT see yourself in either the video footage or still photos.” Cost for each video, is $20.

"There’s 45 minutes of great photos and video from the helicopter the first day of the shotgun start and we also have the weigh-ins with interviews, and the great parties all four nights," said Duhart, of Duhart productions in San Jose Del Cabo.

You can e-mail Luis at duh_art@prodigy.net.mx for details on getting the video. Next year he again be selling team photos at the event next year at his booth all four days, as well as contracting out with teams for raw video footage from the helicopter or start boat Oceanus.

Shot of the video

LUIS DUHART'S new video now available captures the fun an excitement of the 2008 tourney, and the 10th anniversary video highlights the nine previous years of the tourney with video and hundreds of photos.

The 11th annual Tuna Jackpot slated for Nov. 4-7, 2009

CABO SAN LUCAS
– It may be all over for this year, but plans are underway for the next Tuna Jackpot, Nov. 4-7, 2009.

"We had a great week in Cabo with the third biggest tuna in the history of the event, a 244 pounder by Reel Rum, a record amount of money raised for charity, $27,000, and we had four great parties,” said Pat McDonell, Director of the Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot that made it’s 10th annual run in Cabo Nov. 5-8. “It may have been smaller than in past years with 97 teams with a tough economy and skyrocketing airfares, but it was the most fun. People came to compete and party and forget about politics and the stock market for a week.”

The official website for the WON/Yamaha Los Cabo Tuna Jackpot is updated with new rules, signup sheet and schedule.

“We don't plan too many changes, just a few refinements here and there. We will change two venues, namely the captains meeting and the rock and roll party,” said McDonell.

Indeed, It is likely the Costa Del Mar captain's meeting will be moved from the Puerto Pairiso mall to theTesoro Hotel or the malecon in front of it, while the two weigh-ins and awards dinner will remain at the mall area, said McDonell. The new Thursday Fiesta at Soloman's will be back by popular demand.

"We plan to crank up the fun at the captains meeting at the Tesoro, which is the official Cabo hotel of the tourney," said McDonell. "It's a far cry from the old Plaza Las Glorias. It got rave reviews from people who stayed here this year, including me. Great staff, clean, new rooms, great breakfasts, and views of the marina from every room. We want to bring one of the events to the hotel to show it off, and it will be far more convenient for us to stage it there. We'll have a live band play for three hours, tables and chairs to sit in around the pool before the meeting starts, and the check-in will be under several tents in the shade with a view of the marina and Land's End. It will be a great event to kick off four days of partying and competition."

One other venue change is the Rock and Roll Party Friday, sponsored by Reactor Watches.

"Squid Roe is the new venue, and we'll have food, a free drink at the door, a live band and I promise it will be a great time to relax, sit (until dancing starts at 9:30 or so), eat and win some amazing drawing prizes. It will be a perfect party spot after two days of fishing," said McDonell. "I expect us to be well over 100 teams next year, and we'll be promoting the event on both sides of the border, overseas and back East as well. This year we had teams from six countries, including Ireland, France and Germany."

The entry form is now updated as well as the rules. A Spanish version will be soon added to the preview section.

"The dorado/wahoo optional rule will be changed to have the minimum for both days lowered to 30 pounds, as per a request by many teams. If no team catches a fish that big, the backup species is tuna," said McDonell.

Stay tuned for any announcements on the event on the official website (www.loscabostunajackpot.com) or on the pages of Western Outdoor News or Western Outdoors Magazine. You can reach Pat McDonell at pat@wonews.com
