CA Guns & Hunting: Whats New

CA Guns & Hunting: What’s new in the hunting rifle world

BY STEVE COMUS/Calif. Guns & Hunting Guns EditorPublished: Jun 19, 2018

The shooting sports industry is still experiencing ups and downs as it transitions from the effects of the attack mode of the previous federal administration to the freedoms afforded by the current administration.

Following years of panic buying, the market is going through the throws of adjustments it needs to make in light of the overall cooling off of the previous frenzy. In such times, companies tend not to introduce a lot of really new models, but rather generally focus more on extensions of existing lines. That’s pretty much the way it is in Gundom this year.

MAUSER M18 IS available at an affordable price point, making it what the company calls the “people’s rifle.”

Mauser — There are things to talk about with Mauser, however, and even a wholly new rifle design from the company. Called the M18, this rifle is a thoroughbred hunting rifle designed to work well in the real, harsh world of hardcore hunting. They call it the “People’s Rifle.”

“Thanks to its ultra-rugged synthetic stock, the M18 will withstand daily use in even the harshest hunting environments,” Mauser reported. “A three-position safety allows you to safely carry a round in the chamber without fear of the bolt being nudged out of battery. The steel receiver provides core strength and reliability to protect the action, and a cold-hammer-forged barrel gives further peace of mind that the rifle will perform consistently, round after round.”

For optimum grip, the stock features two areas of soft-inlay. The five-round magazine enables fast, fuss-free follow-up shots, and an adjustable trigger allows shooters to set their own preferred pull weights.

“Being able to produce a rifle this good at such an affordable price means more sportsmen than ever before can realize their dream of owning a Mauser,” said Christian Socher, CEO of Blaser USA, Mauser’s North American distributor. “The value of the M18 lies not only in its price but also in its ultimate reliability, durability, and accuracy. This is a rifle for the everyday hunter, incorporating features they rely on, and it will get the job done time after time. That’s why we’re calling it ‘Volkswaffe’: ‘the people’s rifle’.”

Priced from $699, the M18 is currently available in .243 Win., .308 Win., .270 Win., .30-06, 7mm Rem. Mag., and .300 Win. Mag. with 6.5 Creedmoor to follow.
