Lots of outdoor events coming up this weekend

There’s a lot coming up this weekend, including a BOW event, introduction to backpacking course, advance bow hunting clinic and beginning fishing clinic at Belmont.

To top that off, there meetings and dinners fundraisers to choose between, and even more things on Sunday, like a Rattlesnake Avoidance course.

Fri., April 20: BECOMING AN OUTDOORS WOMAN DEADLINE — This is the deadline for registering for the Cal Waterfowl (CWA) 2018 women’s Multi-Course Workshop to be held April 27-29 a Grizzly Ranch in Suisun. Choose from a long list of outdoor activities. Register at www.calwaterfowl.org/cwa-bow .


April 20 : ROOSTER TAILS FISHING CLUB MEET — The Rooster Tails Fishing Club breakfast meeting will be held on April 20 at the Auburn Elks Lodge, 195 Pine St., Auburn. APRIL


Sat - Sun April 21st & 22nd: THE NEAL TAYLOR NATURE CENTER’S 23RD ANNUAL FISHING DERBY — Prize categories for multiple types of fish such as crappie, bass, catfish, trout, and carp. Everyone has a chance to win great cash prizes, fishing gear, and more! Anglers of all ages are encouraged to enter the Nature Center’s23rd Annual Fish Derby April 21 and 22. Registration fee for adults is $35 until April 7th; $40 thereafter. Youth 4 – 15 years old always $10. Registration forms are available at Cachuma Lake Park entry gate, store, marina, Nature Center and some local businesses. Cash prizes amounting to more than $5,000 plus thousands of dollars worth of merchandise prizes will be awarded in many categories and to anglers of all ages. Certain prizes are designated for children and for teens.


All anglers 16 years and older must have a fishing license which may be purchased at the marina. Free arts and crafts activities will be offered to children Saturday afternoon of Derby weekend at the Nature Center and the Nature Center will also host a special Books & Treasure Sale on both Saturday and Sunday at the Nature Center.

Sat.-Sun., April 28-29: OAK TREE GUN CLUB SUMMER BLAST – 4th Anniversary of the hands-on shooting experience. This event is a dream weekend for shooters of all ages and experience levels. Twenty anglers will ride on the 55-foot Gail Force and twenty-five will be fishing on the super-wide, 60-foot Triton. The fare is $130 per angler, including a $20 jackpot buy in. Sat.-Sun., Oct. 6-7: WON/Big Bear Lake TroutfesT — Moving back to its rightful place in the first week of October for its 14th annual installment. Each fall, family and friends head “up the hill” to take part in the annual two-day trout derby amid the beautiful alpine setting of Big Bear Lake. Hundreds of anglers vie to make the top 5 in four different divisions (Adult Male/Female and Junior Male/Female), while also gunning for the Big Fish Award. Mon.-Weds., 15-17: WON BASS U.S. Open at Lake Mead — Coming off the heels of one of the most exciting tournaments with the largest-ever field (207 boats) in its 35-year history, the most prestigious bass fishing tournament in the West returns in mid-October. The unique three-day, shared-weight format of WON BASS Opens is also a draw, allowing co-anglers to fish with a variety of seasoned pros, with both a chance to claim the AAA title and tremendous learning opportunities and forging bonds with other anglers that last often last a lifetime. The 2017 installment of the event was witness to the tournament’s largest-ever cash payout, a whopping $747,500! Thurs., Nov. 29: WON Charter Baja Coast Special out of H&M Landing — This classic trip started as a “freezer special” for rockfish, but the 2017 installment included bottom grabbers along with plenty of bluefin tuna. The trip departs H&M Landing 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29 and returns Sunday, Dec. 2 at 6 a.m. The $450 per person includes meals and permits.
