LAKEPORT — Clear Lake continues to offer solid bass fishing around the lake for pro anglers, guides and novice fishermen.

“The fishing out here can only be rated as fantastic right now,” said Bob Myskey of Bassin’ With Bob Guide Service. “The water clarity remains great, the bite is great, the weather has been great, and landing between 25 and 50 bass with my clients has been great. We had a team tournament out here with 61 boats and the winners had 29 pounds for their best 5 fish including 2 fish over 7 pounds, which is a great weight for this time of year when its more about numbers than quality. A friend of mine came in at 8th place with 19 pounds and he caught a good majority of his fish on topwater baits throughout the day.

“My best trip this week was with 3 repeat customers,” Myskey said. “They booked for 2 days and in that time they caught a total of 75 fish between them and their biggest of the trip was a beautiful 7.5 pounder. They landed multiple fish in the 3- to 4-pound class. We had a cooling trend during the week that dropped daytime temperatures below average for this time of year and the strong winds that came with that system really made things difficult for a couple of days, but the warm weather has returned and things are stabilizing once again.

“The topwater bite continues to improve,” Myskey said. “The weed beds are becoming more defined as the water levels drop and the baitfish move out into those heavily weeded areas for cover, followed closely by the bass looking to feed. A whole variety of topwater baits are working including the frog style baits which are arguably the most popular in the entire industry. Combine that with a variety of soft plastic techniques and you should have no problem catching numbers of big quality bass as the 4th of July holiday approaches. We are expecting to have a very busy lake this year and hope that everyone enjoys a happy and safe Independence Day,” Myskey said.
