BRIDGEPORT — Saturday, June 23, Bridgeport area anglers will be testing their skills on area waters with top catches for the day good for a host of prizes at the 8th annual Bridgeport Fish Enhancement Foundation tournament. Proceeds from the popular event are earmarked for the continued rearing of brown and rainbow trout at two foundation Bridgeport locations. “Fish stocked by the foundation have been a real shot in the arm for local waters,” said Jim Reid at Ken’s Sporting Goods. “They have been stocking tens of thousands of fish every season and have been making a good showing on the stringers.”“The reservoir has been fishing good. Bait, dough baits and inflated nightcrawlers have been producers. Trolling is more challenging; the weed growth is just beginning to make a showing. Tournament kickoff time is 6:30 a.m. Saturday with closing at 2 p.m. Weigh-in at Ken’s Sporting Goods ends at 2:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required, either on line or Friday at the Bridgeport Memorial Hall. Prizes will be awarded for several divisions, along with chances at raffle prizes including tackle, outdoor gear and gift certificates from local merchants. This year's grand prize is a lifetime fishing license. The tournament includes Bridgeport Reservoir, Upper and Lower Twin Lakes, Virginia lakes along with local streams. There are no tackle restrictions with bait, lures or flies, it's anglers choice. Entry fee is set at $50 for adults and $30 for kids 15 and under and includes the days western style awards dinner Saturday evening.
