2012 Eastern Sierra Fishing Events

Western Outdoor NewsPublished: Apr 20, 2012

It’s that time of year again folks! The Eastern Sierra had a pretty mild winter and fishing on opening weekend should be nothing short of amazing. Normally, the Lakes begin thawing around this time. The trout move up after the thaw, but they are generally still inactive. Well, this year the lakes are already thawed! Reports from June Lake indicate that trout are feeding heavily. Dave Cunningham  from June Lake Marina called in to say that he is seeing trout rise to eat in the mornings and evenings. The Ospreys have been catching a lot of trout too, which is unheard of this time of year. The Trout are usually much deeper…

Lake Mary Marina owner, Don Barrett called Adam Cargill of WON on Tuesday this week to let him know that he would be open for “Fishmas,” too. “We haven’t been able to open this early for almost 20 years,” he remarked. The forest service has begun to clear the roads that were blocked during this year’s “blow down.” There were literally thousands of fallen trees in the Mammoth Lakes Basin. With plowing underway, and several days remaining till the general trout opener, there should be no problem getting to your favorite Mammoth Lake.

There are several major derbies and events associated with this first part of the season. Read the details below:
