SANTA BARBARA — Kids of all ages up to 15-years can fish in the upcoming “Free Kids Fishing Derby” to be held from 10 a.m. to  noon on Saturday, June 30.

Stearns Wharf has managed to be the heart of Santa Barbara for 130 years and has survived earthquakes, fires and even war. The annual derby will bring out the best of Santa Barbara as kids fish for thousands of dollars in prizes. Sponsored by local businesses including West Marine, Fish Talk Radio, Stearns Wharf Tackle, McConnell’s Ice Cream and many others. Derby signups begin at 9:30 a.m. the day of the event.

Radio personality and spokesperson for the event, John Henigin, says that kids of all levels of fishing experience come out to enjoy the event. “Last year we had more than 100 anglers sign up, along with their families. Over 300 fish were caught and released and for many, this was the first fish they had ever caught.”

Members of local fishing clubs will be on hand to help keep lines in the water, but other volunteers are welcome. For more information contact John Henigin at (805) 207-3522 or John@FishTalkRadio.com .
