POINT LOMA — On Thursday evening, Aug. 9, the Make-A-Wish Tuna Challenge Tournament will host its 11th annual Tuna Seminar, at West Marine, Shelter Island, 1250 Rosecrans St., in Point Loma. This annual event provides a great opportunity for tournament anglers to learn about the latest techniques and equipment available for catching tuna. It is free to the public and we invite all interested anglers to attend, whether or not they are fishing in the Tuna Challenge Tournament. A free door prize drawing will be held for all in attendance. The seminar takes place from 7-9 p.m. and we’re happy to present some very knowledgeable experts in the Southern California fishing scene. They will exhibit many different ways to fish for and catch tuna from small and large private boats, how to properly use marine electronics, and how to utilize available charts and fishing information. Guest experts are: Bob Hoose, expert tuna fisherman and Field Marketing Manager West for Pure Fishing; Ron Maggi, Electronics Manager at West Marine, Shelter Island, and representatives from Fishdope.com who will share information on how to find the fish. Tournament registration begins at 5 p.m. and a casual dinner will be offered from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. from Devilicious Food Truck for a nominal fee. Tournament boats looking for additional crew members or anglers seeking a boat to fish on, will have the opportunity to meet with other interested anglers. “We are also very grateful to West Marine Shelter Island for designating the entire day as Make-A-Wish Tuna Challenge Community Day,”said event coordinator Carolyn Morris. “They are very donating 5 percent of the proceeds from all in-store purchases made between 7:30 a.m.- 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9, to Make-A-Wish Tuna Challenge. So if you need anything for the boat, please plan to make your purchase that day to help fund wishes for children battling life threatening medical conditions. |
