VENTURA — You
would never guess that a guy who calls himself “Flipper” would be ready
to rumble. But after a couple of months of rockfish closures and a wet
and cold winter moving into spring he has thrown down the challenge.
“We want to see what these guys have,” said Mike “Flipper” Thompson. “And March is the time to do it.” Thompson, a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan, runs the landing at Ventura Sportfishing, and this landing is serious about good service.
VENTURA SPORTFISHING will be the site for the battle of the bruisers as anglers ready for action get out and kick some ‘butts.
Just a couple of years after revamping the whole landing, dumping some boats and bringing in new, the idea is to get people on the water when rockfishing season is open.
To that end, Western Outdoor News and Ventura Sportfishing have put together the exciting “Rockfish Rumble.”
We’re all sick-and-tired of the winter blues, and our own SoCal version of cabin fever, so we’re pretty sure everybody is ready for a throw-down.
“Getting the biggest fish on any of the three boats will earn that angler a trophy and bragging rights as the toughest brawler in the Ventura Sportfishing/WON Rockfish Rumble. Each boat will have a fight for top prize, too. There will also be plenty of swag given away and that means hooks, spool-ups and just maybe some special gear,” explained Thompson.
WON will support the Rumble with a feature story on the event as field reporter Bob Semerau will be on hand to do the story.
As Thompson explained, “We will send out three limited-load boats for an extended ¾-day trip on March 22 at a greatly reduced rate for anglers of just $75 for the whole thing,” said Thompson.
So, there you are. No excuses for not going fishing that day. If you are ready to fight the good fight and rumble with the big boys’ then plan on being part of the Ventura Sportfishing/WON Rockfish Rumble.
Come out and kick some ’butt (or reds, or lings, or…) and take home some great swag along with bags full of fish.
