MORE NEWS HAVASU UPDATE Havasu primed for WON BASS pros March 19-20 LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — “The spawn is on” was the word from John Galbraith, tournament director for the Colorado River WON BASS Team Tournament circuit as he reported it took over 20 pounds to win his Lake Havasu event last Saturday. Havasu is the next stop on the WON BASS Pro Circuit, with the first event in the Southern Region taking place March 19-20.“The smallies are bitin’ and so are the pre spawn/spawning largemouth,” said Galbraith. “It took more than 15 pounds just to make the top 10… WOW!” The team weighing the five heaviest bass was made up of JJ Gibbs and Ray Lillard, who took home $2,087 for a sack of smallmouth and largemouth weighing 20.17. The catch included a hybrid weighing 5.72 pounds that just missed big fish honors. A 5.73-pound largemouth caught on a crankbait by the fourth place team of Andy and Glenda Jackson took the big fish money. Since five-fish limits will be easy, Pros and AAAs who assemble for the WON BASS Nitro/Mercury Lake Havasu Invitational in a few weeks will all be looking for a kicker fish that puts their five-fish limit over the top. If that kicker fish happens to top the existing WON BASS Pro/Am record of 8.68 pounds, the lucky angler who catches it will be awarded $10,000. That’s in addition to any big fish option money or the likely payout for a top finish.
