LONG RANGE HUNTING FEATURE REPORT BY MARTIN STRELNECK WALKER, NV -Saturday was a great day for young hunters taking to the field in Northern Mono County’s 10th annual Little Antelope Valley Junior Pheasant Hunt. When the feathers stopped flying, many of the 14 junior hunters bagging limits and for some it was a first time experience on the pheasant hunting scene.Hosted by DFG, the event was team effort. The Bridgeport Gun Club provided guides and dogs along with preparing lunch. Birds were provided by the Owens Valley Chapter of Quail Unlimited and DFG. The location was the ideal habitat of DFG’s Little Antelope Valley Game Management Area. “It’s a great experience for our young hunters,” said Bridgeport Gun Club President Albert Pegorare.” Not only do they have a chance at bagging their first pheasant, they become aware of the importance of hunter safety and develop skills and respect for other hunters while in the field.” ![]() ![]() |
