DICK POOL, NEW inductee into the California Outdoor Hall of Fame, is congratulated by Tom Stienstra, Chairman of the organization.

Pool joined Francis Tapon, one of a handful of Americans to have hiked the Triple Crown: the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail, the 2,168-mile Appalachian Trail, and the 5,600-mile Continental Divide Trail, and John Poimiroo, who served as director of California State Tourism under two governors of different parties and as director of tourism at Yosemite and at Squaw Valley as 2019 inductees.

Tom Stienstra, chairman of the California Outdoors Hall of Fame said, “All candidates must fill two requirements for consideration for the Hall of Fame, and they must receive 60 percent of the votes from living members of the ‘Circle of Chiefs’ – Hall of Fame members.

— The nominees have inspired thousands of Californians to take part in the great outdoors and/or conservation;

— The nominees must have taken part in a paramount scope of adventures.

Pool has been involved in the conservation of California salmon and steelhead for over 30 years. He has served on numerous state and federal salmon advisory committees and has testified as an expert witness on salmon issues before the California Legislature and the U.S. House of Representatives.

In the late 1980’s, he served for five years on a California Fish and Game Upper Sacramento Salmon and Steelhead Advisory Committee scoping improvements for the upper Sacramento River. Starting in 1990, he served two years on a NMFS advisory committee working to avoid a listing of the winter-run salmon. He is currently heavily involved in the California coalition working to find ways to restore the severely depressed Central Valley salmon runs. In 2006, Dick Pool was one of the founding members of the California grassroots fisheries organization Water4Fish.org. In 2010, Pool assisted in the founding of the Golden Gate Salmon Association, a Northern California non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration of the California Central Valley salmon.

Pool is the President and principal owner of Pro‑Troll Fishing Products Inc., a Northern California manufacturing company, involved in the production and sales of fishing equipment. Founded in 1978, Pro‑Troll markets innovative fishing and marine products and specializes in salmon lures and attractors. Pro‑Troll sells its technology and products globally in the U.S., Scandinavia, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and Canada. Dick Pool is the originator of a number of patents for specialized fishing equipment. His contributions to California’s fisheries are immeasurable.

Pool’s induction is a victory for all anglers and an inspiration for fishermen to continue to advocate for the fisheries.
