Breaking News BY BOS SEMERAU BY BOB SEMERAU/Special to Western Outdoor News MORENO VALLEY—Trudging around the foothills of Moreno Valley can be hard work, especially when the Corsican Rams are nowhere to be found.Steve West of Rancho Santa Margarita reports that he and his pals, Brent Little, Mission Viejo, and Jim Green, Tustin had seen none of the big-horns when they were almost ambushed by a massive hog out of the brush. “The hog ran straight for us and Brent used his .270 to make a head shot that put it down,” explained West after the hunt. But the pig would not stay down. “It was fearless and kicked and started at us again! This time Jim Green went around behind and put a .357 into him that did not even slow him down. A third shot put him to rest,” concluded West, who estimated the beast at over 500 pounds The hunt was not guided and spanned the several-hundred-acre Big Horn Ranch just east of Los Angeles. Two other nice hogs added to the bag, including a 200-pound Russian boar taken by West. ![]() • SAUSAGE FEST FOR HUNTERS, Jim Green and Steve West. • THIS HOGZILLA was taken in Moreno Valley area while stalking Big Horn Ranch. ![]() |
