SOUTH CAL WATERFOWL UPDATE SACRAMENTO — Through California Waterfowl’s relationships with private landowners and guides, the organization is offering all California hunters the opportunity to hunt exclusive and private clubs this turkey season, by drawing, for a $5 application fee.New spring turkey hunts are now available, including the following northern California Hunts: Private Ranch Tri-Valley — This hunt will take place the opening week of turkey season in the Livermore or Castro Valley hills. The selected hunter will meet one hour before shoot time, and coffee and Danish will be served. Trucks and quad provided to get to pre-determined hunt location. After a tom turkey is harvested, a wild game lunch will be served while overlooking the bay area. Hunter must have license, shotgun, shells, and camo. Decoys and calling provided. Tuesday, March 30, 2010 — Capacity one hunter Western Wildlife Adventures — This guided California turkey hunt will take place on private property in Central California near Gilroy. Our ranch has good numbers of turkeys and offers a great day in the field trying to harvest one of these great and elusive game birds. Sack lunch included. Saturday, April 3, 2010 — Capacity one hunter Rhino Ridge Guide Service — Kerry Griffith has been a professional guide for over 20 years. Kerry is a champion caller and call maker. These hunts will all take place on private property on one of his many ranches he has from Fresno to Yuba City. These hunts will be one on one and you can hunt using a bow, shotgun or pellet gun. Wednesday, April 21, 2010 — Capacity one hunter. Sunday, April 25, 2010 — Capacity one hunter. O’Brien Ranch — A once in a lifetime hunt at the 2,500-acre O’Brien Ranch in northern Yuba County. This privately owned wildlife reserve overlooks the Sutter Buttes. This past fall, a count by biologists identified just over 700 birds on the property. Chuck Harrison will be your guide for this incredible hunt. This is the chance of a lifetime to hunt a privately owned reserve which is managed specifically for turkeys, quail, deer, ducks and geese. The ranch has donated turkey hunts to the last four Gridley CWA dinners and it has a 100 percent hunter success rate for the auction winners from 2007-09. Two of the longest beards taken by the lucky winners were 10.0 inches and 10.5 inches. The hunt will be during the week of April 12-16. With over 20 ranches to choose from in Butte and Glenn counties, finding a turkey for this junior hunter should not be a problem. Saturday, March 27, 2010 — Capacity one hunter and one non-hunter P.E.G.S. — Rich Esmiol — Enjoy a wonderful fully guided hunt with professional guide Rich Esmiol. This hunt is for one junior shooter for a 1⁄2-day guided hunt at a private ranch located just outside of Auburn. You will be hunting out of a ground blind on this ranch, one of Rich’s best producers. Need not be member to apply. — Application, two page selection form and payment (checks okay) must be submitted to listed address or faxed (credit card only) by appropriate deadline. REMEMBER! Each hunt date requires a $5 application fee. — Applicants will be notified approximately three days after the application due date. — Successful applicants will be required to pay a $25 per hunter fee prior to hunt date. (This fee will be waived for ALL junior hunters regardless of what type of hunt) — Unless specified in hunt description, hunts will take place in the morning and conclude by noon. — For all Spring Turkey hunts, applications must be received by March 17, 2010.
