WON 11-21-08 EVENT / CALENDAR

Last chance for fall turkeys

WESTERN OUTDOORS NEWSPublished: Nov 21, 2008

NORTH AND SOUTH CAL CALENDAR - WON 11-21-08

Short but sweet, the fall turkey season has been a productive one for many hunters. Since both hens and toms can be harvested in the fall season, putting a scattergun bead on one is much easier. Also, hunters are limited to one turkey for the fall season, so once you get your bird, you’re out of the competition.

Fall hunting for turkeys is much different than the highly-attended spring season. Instead of chasing hens with romance on their minds, the toms are grouped with hens and young of the year in large flocks. As a result, yelping hen calls aren’t that effective. A better bet is busting up a flock, then using the questing calls the group uses to get back together.
