Laughlin: Stripers and largemouth firing

BY MIKE STEVENS/WON Staff WriterPublished: Feb 07, 2020

LAUGHLIN, Nev. — Fishing is picking up in the Colorado River around Laughlin with striped bass, smallmouth and largemouth all cooperating to some degree or another.

“More striped bass have been moving up,” said Mike Huseman (LaughlinFishingGuide.com). “The fish have been quality size ranging from 5 to 10 pounds on average. Smallmouth are still very scratchy, but fishing for largemouth is excellent in all back waters off the main river.”

Stripers and trout are both on a solid bite in the zone just below Davis Dam, according to Rusty Braun at Rusty Riviera Marina. Until recently, Braun had been telling WON there have been a lot of bigger stripers hanging out in the area but they weren’t biting. That has changed over the last week or so. Local anglers Raul Gonzalez and Richard Erdmann caught linesides of 15.92 and 14.10 pounds on artificials deployed near Community Park.

This region is also getting trout plants at Community Park and Davis Camp, and shore anglers are regularly putting together limits of pan-sized rainbows. PowerBait has been the ticket lately, but these fish will regularly heat up on spinners, spoons and jigs. Rotary Park is out of the stocking rotation on the moment due to low water levels, but there are holdover stockers still biting there, and it’s occasionally limit style.
