FOLSOM — Fishing for trout and landlocked king salmon at Folsom Lake has been picking up at Folsom Lake, according to Jerry Lampkin of TNG Motorsports Guide Service.

“We’ve been catching some nice kings and rainbows fishing up the North Fork,” he said. “Our biggest king was 17 inches, but one of our buddies got one that weighed about 4 pounds.” Lampkin said that he set out two arrays of lures — UV Radical Glow Hoochies and GVF Pina Colada Spinners set between 30 and 50 feet, and nightcrawlers behind Sep’s Sidekicks in watermelon fished near the surface.

As for bass, Don Paganelli of Paganelli’s Bass Fishing Experience said that bass are still in a winter mode with anglers working hard for a few bites an outing. They are hanging deep and taking slowly worked jigs and drop-shotted Robo-Worms fished off outside points 25 to 35 feet deep. They are also suspended over bait concentrations in water 45 to 65 feet deep. Spooning has been the best way to entice bites for suspended fish.
