GRANITE BAY — Folsom Lake continued to kick out some nice kings and rainbows last week, according to Jerry Lampkin of TNG Motorsports Guide Service, while Don Paganelli of Paganelli’s Bass Fishing Experience provided some suggestions on how to score post-spawn largemouth and smallmouth bass. Lampkin said that kings were being caught on Speedy Shiners trolled fast between 35 and 45 feet deep, while toplined nightcrawlers and pink UV Shasta Tackle Sling Blades followed by Crystal Basin Pink Glow Hoochies dragged slowly at 25 feet were producing some nice holdover and native rainbows, when trolled slowly. He said the key to possible limits has been to get on the water before the jetskiers and wakeboarders hit the water. He suggested getting the extra rod stamp and run a glow-in-the-dark green lure at 60 or 70 feet for a shot at a slug salmon of 22 inches, or more. Paganelli suggested working outside points up the North Fork anywhere from 10 to 24 feet deep drop-shotting or Carolina-rigged plastic worms for 2- or 3-pound largemouth and spotted bass. He also said there’s been a topwater bite on Pop-R’s and Zara Spooks around submerged willows and brush early in the morning. |
