LIVERMORE — Anglers at Los Vaqueros Reservoir are catching limits of trout and stripers, while catfish also are biting well. The lake was planted with 1,000 pounds of rainbows from Mt. Lassen Trout Farms last Thursday, and will get another 1,000 pounds next week.

“Fishing overall has been great,” said Brian DeMunnick, the manager of Los Vaqueros Marina. “Everything is biting. Trout fishing has been good. There are lots of nice-size fish, and we are seeing a lot of limits. They are still hitting off of Power Bait, nightcrawlers and we are seeing more lure action, which is nice.”

South Cove and Howden Cove have been the hot spots for trout.

Stripers are being caught by shore anglers fishing anchovies, sardines and chicken liver near the marina. Anglers also are catching stripers in the Peninsula Cove area. “Stripers are doing well,” DeMunnick said. “Guys are seeing limits. Nothing real large, but fish in the 18- to 22-inch range, with a lot of shakers too.”

The Cowboy Cove area has been the best spot for catfish, which also were biting well last week. Humbertio Rocha of Hayward caught a 14.93-pound striper last week on a Rapala in Howden Cove.

Victor Guida of San Jose used a Rooster Tail to catch an 11.23-pound rainbow in South Cove. Rick Rubio of Fremont caught an 8-pound rainbow on Power Bait in South Cove.
