SACRAMENTO — Sturgeon fishing has picked up on the Sacramento River, and should get even better  with the rains pounding the Sacramento Valley last weekend.

The river came up 2 feet by Sunday and was expected to go higher.

“They’re getting some sturgeon from the Hog Farm to the Fremont Weir and along as South River Road,” Yee Vang of Broadway Bait Rod and Gun said.  Vang was optimistic that sturgeon fishing will pick up another couple of notches with the rise in water level and putting mud in the river.

Bob Boucke of Johnson’s Bait and Tackle said that some sturgeon were being caught above and below Tisdale.

Vang also said that few stripers were being caught except a few in the Deep Water Channel. Bait fishermen were soaking bloodworms, mudsuckers, and sardines. He said boaters were trolling the new Alabama Rig made by Blade Runner. It’s a spreader devise that can be used to work multiple lures simultaneously like swim baits and diving plugs.
