SMARTVILLE — As a condition of their Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) permit to generate electricity through the dam at Englebright Lake, PG&E made its big annual mitigation trout plant this past week and anglers couldn’t be happier. Trollers and shore anglers were catching limits of rainbows in the marina near where the fish were released.

“PG&E stocked 2500 pounds of half-pound rainbows this past week as a mitigation requirement for their FERC permit,” Lisa Rogers at Skippers Cove Marina said. “Shore anglers were doing well from the bank between the marina and Army Corps boat ramps. Trollers were picking up limits running flasher/worm combos between the houseboats in the marina. As the fish disperse out into the main lake, the trollers will continue to do well while the shore fishing in the marina will slow down.”

Rogers said that some of the trophy fish raised and released by Skippers Cove Marina were still being caught by bait drifters fishing up above Black’s Ravine.  As the boating season gets going with warmer weather, fishermen can get away from the speed boats and skiers by heading up lake into the 5 mph zone.
