SMARTVILLE — With the summer season just starting and warmer weather on the horizon, trout fishing at Englebright Lake was still in high gear with trollers and bait fishermen catching plenty of rainbows all over the lake. “Trout trolling was really good this past week for anglers running flasher/worm combos or just a threaded nightcrawler down in the 6- to 10-foot range from the marina up to Dixon Hill (at the no-ski buoys),” Dillon Davis at Skippers Cove Marina said. “I took five friends out this past week and we caught limits of rainbows from 6 inches to 2 pounds, with most of the trout running 9 to 11 inches. Guys who tried spinners and spoons didn’t catch much, but at soon as they switched over to the worms they began to score.” Davis said that the upper end of the lake where the Yuba River forks come together was still kicking big numbers of 9- to 10-inch rainbows for boaters who pulled up on the banks of the sandy flats and cast out Power Bait or worms. “There’re lots of fish up there, they’re just small.” Davis also reported seeing a school of 50 to 60 bass in the 5- to 9-pound range cruising the banks in 3 to 4 feet of water in the Cherokee to Buck’s Beach area. “Someone with a swimbait could probably do some serious catching up here if these fish stay in the area.” |
