SPALDING — Although trolling was a hit or miss proposition at Eagle lake this past week, fly fishing was great when the weather cooperated and bobber fishing was also productive. “Trolling was pretty tough this past week,” Tim Noxon of Fish Traveler Guide Service said. “We trolled Thursday, Friday and Saturday and boated 14 fish trolling and had limits Thursday and Friday. Saturday, the weather was very windy and we had to quit early. We were two shy of limits on Saturday, with 8 hook ups and 4 landed.”Noxon said fly fishing was outstanding on Wednesday and Sunday with 38 hookups and 27 fish landed for the two days. “Sunday we also had to quit early as the wind blew us off anchor,” he said. “When the wind does not blow us off anchor, fly fishing has been very good. We are nymphing in 10 to 11 feet of water with the boat anchored over rocky structure. The fish we are catching and releasing are bigger than those we are hooking trolling. The average fish landed fly fishing has been 2½ pounds with a good number approaching 3 pounds.” “Bobber fishing has been hot in 10 feet of water south of Pelican Point on the west side,” Noxon said. “But this has been a very early bite that’s over by 6:30 a.m. Send your threaded nightcrawler down 5 to 7 feet deep.” |
