WALKER — With weekly plants being made by the DFG into the West Walker and Little Walker River and river flows at 200 cfs, it’s hard to imagine a place more agreeable to visiting fishermen — tons of fish and perfect water conditions.  Whatever your style of fishing — flies, lures, or bait — this part of Northern Mono County can provide the best of the best for all types of anglers.

“The river is in perfect condition at 200 cfs for any type of fishing,” Sam Foster at the Toiyabe Motel said. “The flows are fantastic for fly fishing and anglers were catching-and-releasing dozens of fish each day. Bait and lure fishermen were easily catching limits of planter-sized rainbows, but there were still some of the big trophy fish being caught. Doug Ball landed a 5-pound rainbow near the Walker Bridge on a spinner. Mono County has only released trout up to 3 pounds this year so this fish had to be a holdover from last year.”

Foster reported that Mono County would be stocking a load of 250 to 300 pounds of trophy rainbows into the West Walker the week of June 25 in time for the July 4th weekend of July 1-2, since the holiday falls on a Wednesday this year. Make plans now to come to the Walker River to get in on the fantastic trout fishing.
