PLEASANTON — The “catch” of a very large bass in Shadow Cliffs Reservoir, potentially a new lake record, has generated lots of excitement — and controversy. The largemouth bass weighed a staggering 18.9 pounds and was reported in the Pleasanton Weekly News. It was taken in a cove by a 13-year-old boy who said he caught it with a lure after seeing a number of large bass in a cove. Rather, Shadow Cliff Lake rangers reported that witnesses claimed the boy waded into the wake and retrieved a dead fish floating on the surface. The bass was not weighed at the lake on a certified scale, and a park representative said the fish would not be listed as a record because of the questions surrounding its capture Whether or not a record, that whopper bass is proof that some very large bass inhabit Shadow Cliffs, and are there for the taking. Hopefully, alive and willing to take a hook. |
