CWA Veterans trip full of fun, food and limits!

BY CAPTAIN JAMES SMITH/California DawnPublished: Aug 10, 2017

SACRAMENTO — On Thursday, July 27, the California Waterfowl Association (CWA) chartered the California Dawn and we teamed up for a Veterans Trip.

There were a lot of guys that served our country bravely and lots of Purple Heart vets on board. We opted to fish for salmon. We had 23 vets and 2 hosts from CWA's second annual Vets fishing Wild game feed.

Chef Marc Ries was throwing down wild boar, duck poppers, elk and other game donated from CWA members and our host Darren Solaro.

The boat was fishing 10 miles southwest of Half Moon Bay and the action was red hot, as the Vets hooked, lost and landed one salmon after another. We were releasing many silvers and droppings many weights in the process.

When the dust settled we finished up with full limits for the boat for 27, a total of 54 salmon and we were on our way headed back to the dock by 12:30 in the afternoon.

Everything went great and smiles all around for the vets and crew.
