I caught a 4-pound king salmon at Lake Berryessa on May 31 in front of the Ranch House in 120 feet of water. The king hit a fish with Gary Copper Dodger and a pink Thunder lure trolled at 60-feet. Speed was 1.3 mph.

I was fishing with a couple buddies last week on the Iman Bank off of Cabo, aboard my panga. We caught a 150-pound gulf grouper, 2 leopard grouper and a snapper. We were back in San Jose by 10 a.m. the same day. I’ve been a captain for over 20 years and operated out of Dana Point.

May 31, I took my first trip to Bahia De Los Angeles with my life long fishing buddies, Dan and Blake. We chartered a Panga with Pedro out of Cangrejos Sportfishing to fish and dive. Over the weekend we scored 15 grouper and 13 yellowtail, and while freediving I shot the biggest yellowtail I have ever seen in person, a 47 pounder. I hit him at 45 feet deep over a reef, and he took me for quite a ride!

My buddy, Jim and I went fishing for WSB at Marina Del Rey Tuesday, June 5. In Seine Bait Co. had no squid, but very lively ’dines. Headed south off the Hermosa Pier. In 80 feet we set up on the anchor at 7:50 a.m. Water temperature was 63.8 with a lot of wave action. At 8 a.m. rod gets a few tugs, I lifted it out of the rod holder and felt something heavy, so I slowly kept reeling with a few small head shakes and told my buddy, “get the gaff, it’s a large halibut.” At 8:02 a.m. a halibut was in the boat going ape! I got down on top of him to keep him in the boat. We weighted it at In Seine Bait Co. using their certified scale and it weighed in at 45.5 pounds. Thanks Mike! I used 20-pound Seaguar line with 50-pound yellow spectra that Dave Hansen put on my reel and a 5-ounce weight with a Owner 2/0 ringed offshore bait hook. My personal best!
