SOUTH CAL CALENDAR OF EVENTS


This week/weekend!

LONG BEACH— The 2010 Long Beach Fred Hall Show (new name) takes place this week, from Wednesday, March 3 thru Sunday, March 7. This year’s show will be one you don’t want to miss.

In addition to the huge selection of boat and booth exhibits, the show will be loaded with hundreds of free seminars, trout fishing for the kids, Lowrance learning center, Special Luncheon seminars, Tony Hoard with celebrity super dog Rockin’ Rory and the K9 Friz-B Crew, Airgun and Archery shooting, Casting Demos, Quantum Kayak Center, and much, much more.

Show hours are: Wednesday through Friday, 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $15 for adults, $14 for military and seniors, and children 15 years and younger are free with paid adult.

March 27: The Master’s Invitational at Irvine Lake. It’s the fishery’s most prestigious trout tournament of the year, with some 50 qualifying anglers. Winner receives a “Master’s” jacket, a one-year pass to the lake and $1,000 cash. For more info, visit www.irvinelake.net.

March 27: Spring wild turkey season opens.

March 27-29: The 2010 Lake Isabella Fishing Derby. This year’s Derby will be offering over $200,000 in prize money as well as many free prizes and raffle items for everyone. The Isabella Lake Fishing Derby is the largest amateur trout fishing derby in the country, and in the past 20 years, lucky fisher (men, women and children) have caught over $230,000 worth of trout during the three-day event. In addition to the $52,000 worth of tagged trout in the lake, they will also be giving away $1,000 for the largest trout by length caught in the derby. Everyone that is registered for the Derby will be automatically eligible for this prize. The trout does not have to be tagged. He will be discussing the proper use of Berkley Gulp! and PowerBait, in addition to a special technique for catching record trout. April 17: The Western Outdoor News Irvine Lake Southern California Trout Opener. The SCTO will feature hundreds of tagged fish planted in Irvine Lake and thousands in prizes. Participants who catch a tagged fish will be eligible for various sponsor-generated prizes ranging from rods, reels, tackle boxes and much more. Additionally, the Southern California Trout Opener will feature five big fish prizes to be awarded in each of four categories including Adult Male, Adult Female, Junior Male (12 years or younger) and Junior Female (12 years or younger).
