SOUTHERN CAL WEEKLY SURF REPORTS LOS ANGELES — Not much going anywhere on the surf scene, due, primarily to all the wind, rain and swell late last week. “The only thing I have really is from yesterday’s Uptown Derby,” said Ginny Wylie at Wylie’s Bait and Tackle in Malibu. “I don’t know how they fished with all the rain we had, but Francis Nakano won with a 1-7 (surfperch) from Zuma on fresh mussel. There were other fish from 1-3 to 1-5 caught.” The Malibu was a safe place to fish, and Wylie had a customer check in and say that there were a lot of perch to be caught from the pier. Those who looked around the Chart House found dirty water. To the south, Pete Wilkowski summed up the Santa Monica Bay’s surf scene in those two big words that have been muttered a bunch this year: “Surf’s up!”ORANGE COUNTY — Staff at Big Fish Bait and Tackle said that fishing was not too good to end the month, mainly due to high surf. A few corbina and spotfin croaker have been taken around Sunset Beach. The Seal Beach Pier has been kicking out sand sharks from the end, while the base of the pier has been good for barred surfperch and few croaker. No reports from Doheny to San Onofre. Blame it on the surf. The San Clemente Pier has been kicking out super small perch. SAN DIEGO — No reports. Simply no reports with all the wind, rain and swell last week. ![]() |
