Western Outdoor NewsPublished: May 18, 2012

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — The highly-anticipated WON Lake Havasu Striper Derby is finally upon us, and this weekend, May 19-20, marks the 29th installment of the annual fun-filled event.

The Striper Derby festivities kick off on Friday afternoon at the captain's meeting held at the Nautical Inn Beach Cove. Anglers will check in during this time, during which they will receive their event shirts, event hats, and sponsor-provided goodie bags. After check-in, a brief meeting will take place to go over event rules and then it is on to our always-popular raffle prizes that are awarded to the participating anglers.

Saturday morning at 5 a.m. marks the start of the competition, with the weigh-in scales opening at 11 a.m. Anglers must have all their fish brought to the official scales no later than 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19th.

Sunday angling also starts at 5 a.m., with scales opening at 9 a.m. and closing at 12 noon. The event awards ceremony take place at the Nautical Inn Convention center around 3-3:30 p.m., with all awards and raffle prizes being given away, including the grand raffle prize of a new Klamath 16 EXW boat with a Mercury 40 hp outboard.
