ESCONDIDO — It goes without saying the more trout a fishery stocks, the more rainbows that are caught. Well, this Wednesday, Jan. 16, marks the second time in as many weeks the trout stocking truck will have delivered a fresh batch of ’bows for eager Lake Wohlford trouters.

GEORGE HARTFIEL OF San Marcos landed this 7.9-pound rainbow trout while fishing a Mice Tail in Lake Wohlford’s Boat Dock Cove last week.

“The trout fishing has been good, with some limits being taken out of Boat Dock Cove,” said Ranger George Scalo. “The second of back-to-back plants is scheduled for Wednesday and could contribute to the best fishing of the year so far if the weather remains clear. Mice Tails seem to have taken over as the bait of choice.”

The biggest trout of this past week was a 7.9-pound rainbow landed by George Hartfiel of San Marcos, who landed the fish on a Mice Tail in Boat Dock Cove. Other notable catches included a 6.65 pounder for Jesse Tran, and a 6.45 pounder for Jim Hopson.
